Opportunity to participate in CNS research led by ODU DNP Student

Posted 6 months ago

Dear Colleagues,

Evidence indicates imposter syndrome is a very real obstacle in the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) transition to practice. Continued study and development of effective interventions is vital in overcoming deep seated feelings of inadequacy that lingers beyond what is considered a normal phase of transition from academic graduate to APRN professional.

This study aims to assess the impact of an educational session on feelings of inadequacy and fraudulence in the role of a CNS professional.

I invite you to participate in a guided online learning on Imposter Syndrome. This educational event will include recognizing negative thoughts and behaviors and replacing those with positive reinforcement responses. Before and after the event, I ask you to participate in a short 20 question pre and post survey. The total time for this research response is approximately one hour. The pre-test will be prefaced with a demographic questionnaire, no identifiable information will be collected. All responses to the survey are anonymous and will be reported only as group data. You may access the anonymous survey at the following link:

This research is part of my capstone project in the DNP program at Old Dominion University. Your input may greatly influence the impact of imposter syndrome and the transition to professional practice. This may provide insight into operationalizing a plan to include educational support in graduate level education programs for the CNS.

If you have any questions or comments about this study, I would be happy to talk with you. My direct number is 703-943-9715 or you may write to me at the address below.
