Coalition Information:
The Behavioral Health Coalition is comprised of leaders from major provider organizations in Virginia in order to have a collective voice in defining the issues for making progress in our state.
Our Coalition formed in response to the rising necessity of fair provider pay in the face of increasing mental health needs in Virginia. We represent a wide spectrum of care in the field of mental health and are comprised of leaders from major Virginia provider organizations including: Virginia Counselors Association, Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, National Association of Social Workers, Virginia Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists, and Psychiatric Society of Virginia.
Our Vision is improved mental health care and access to care for all individuals provided by a wide array of behavioral health professionals who are compensated in parity with physical health professionals. Strengthening and sustaining the behavioral health service continuum will require a public-private effort that includes federal, state and local government, private behavioral health employers and commercial insurance companies.
The Issues:
There is an increased need for mental health support as we come out of the pandemic. Virginia lags behind in mental health access ratings. Now is the time to focus on increasing equitable access at a systemic level by supporting mental health clinicians across the state.
The Goals for 2024:
1. Enforced parity (equal reimbursement) for clinicians
2. Extended telehealth protections
3. Funding for Internships
